The project runs every Monday to support older people who would like to come and help at the farm.

Depending on your areas of interest we have scope for you to be involved in a variety of areas including:

  • Gardening
  • Conservation
  • Animal care
  • Helping with tours
  • Making things to sell at our shop
  • Helping at our cafe
The sessions run either 10.00.-12.00 or 1.00-3.00 on a Monday (except for helping at the café which is open Thursday to Sunday 11 – 4) and are free thanks to funding from the Zurich community Trust and Quartet.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide transport, so volunteers will need to make their own travel arrangements. We can however reimburse a small amount of travel expenses.
Teas and coffees are provided, and volunteers can enjoy a simple hot lunch free of charge at the end of a morning session or before an afternoon.

Older peoples volunteering project  Update
My job as the older peoples volunteer project coordinator has been even more interesting and satisfying than I hoped when I started in April. I have visited a lot of residential homes and sheltered housing schemes to talk to people about the work of the farm and encourage them to visit. This has resulted in about 30 different individuals who coming to the farm for tours. Well over half of these have come
back at least once to do some practical work.
The main focus of our work has been growing a wide variety of vegetables which are starting to be harvested now for volunteers to eat and for sale in the cafe. We have also been growing plants for sale and adding to the ornamental container plantings around site e.g. hanging baskets. Some people have also been working with the animals such as the group from Park Street home who love to feed the pigs!
The best thing about the project is that it is open to individuals whatever their abilities enabling everyone to make a contribution to the work of the farm and have a happy and fulfilling time.
If you would be interested in visiting the farm and maybe doing some gentle gardening or animal care then please contact me either by phone (01225 481269) or via my email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
