Community Apple Juicing
Community apple pressing is an age-old tradition of communities working together and celebrating the seasons by harvesting apples from gardens and local orchards, then transforming them into fresh juice. The process is simple but satisfying. The apples are washed, chopped (or ‘scratted’), pressed to release their juice, bottled, and often pasteurised for a longer shelf life. Instead of apples going to waste, they become something golden, sweet that lasts and can be shared.
What’s happening at Bath City Farm?
From Autumn 2025, Bath City Farm is teaming up with local group Orchardshare who have been pressing surplus fruit since 2005 to continue this legacy from our community Farm in the Whiteway area of Bath.
People are invited to bring their own fruit and exchange it for bottled juice. Half of what’s produced is retained by the Farm charity to cover labour, water, electricity, and operating costs. Participants simply pay for the bottles (and lids) that they take away – £1 per bottle.
Juice won’t necessarily be from your own apples, unless large quantities are brought for juicing (minimum of 140kg). The initiative is open to all, whether you have surplus apples, can’t use yours, or simply wish to lend a hand — by picking, washing, pressing or bottling.
Juicing will be happening on Mondays and Thursdays, bottling on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Complete the form below to express your interest and we will be in touch!
