Introduction to Hedgelaying

This workshop is an introduction to the craft of traditional hedgelaying in a small group at the farm with local expert Mike Reed.

Participants will learn:

– Why we lay hedges

– Hedgelaying styles

– Tool safety and use

– How to lay and stake a hedge

– Ongoing maintenance of a laid hedge

This course has been subsidised by Bathscape, which means we are able to offer it at a lower cost compared to last year. If the workshop cost is a barrier to attending, please get in touch with us directly.

What to bring: Please bring your booking confirmation, warm/waterproof clothing, and please wear thick gloves and sturdy boots. We will provide all tools for the course and safety equipment where required.

The farm’s café will be open and workshop participants can purchase lunch there, or if you do not wish to use the café, please bring a packed lunch.

Facilities: When at the farm you’ll have access to our volunteer kitchen and there will be tea/coffee breaks throughout the day. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, kettles, microwaves, plates, cutlery etc. You’re very welcome to use any of these but please do clear up when you have finished as these facilities are shared.

There are toilets located in the main farm building, including one inclusive and accessible toilet.

Please inform the farm of any allergies or accessibility requirements.
