Roots to Work is a gentle, supportive work placement programme at Bath City Farm, designed to gradually guide people towards the workplace, more meaningful volunteering opportunities or education.
Placements are once a week, 10am – 3pm for up to six months in your chosen work area: Catering, Hospitality, Maintenance, Horticulture or Wildlife Conservation.
As a Trainee you will:
· Gain work experience
· Develop new skills
· Build self-confidence
· Receive one-to-one employability support
· Support to search and apply for employment/volunteering
· Support to access additional training
· Help with signposting to support services
· Help creating or updating a CV
· Attain AQA Awards to prove practical abilities
· Achieve a Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety Certificate
Lunch and Personal Protective Equipment are provided
Travel expenses can be reimbursed up to £10 (with a receipt)
· Cafe placements run Tuesdays to Fridays and provide opportunities to develop skills in food hygiene, customer service skills, kitchen-portering, till use, stock management and presentation, barista skills, cleaning and food preparation.
· Catering placements run on Thursdays and provide opportunities to develop skills in cooking food to sell, learning about pricing, measuring, kitchen safety and hygiene and increasing independent living skills by learning to cook an accessible, healthy lunch to share.
· Horticultural placements run on Thursdays and provide opportunities to develop skills including plant propagation, harvesting, gardening for wildlife, composting, plant identification, weeding and pruning.
· Maintenance placements run on Wednesdays and provide opportunities to develop skills including in fence building and repairing, basic carpentry, strimming, mowing, bricklaying, pathway maintenance and landscaping.
· Wildlife Conservation placements run on Fridays and provide opportunities to develop skills including wildlife habitat creation, ecological surveying, plant ID skills, meadow, hedgerow, pond and woodland management and soil health.
